Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling

As a ten year old girl in desperate need of escape, I first discovered the world of Harry Potter.   At the time, it was to my ten year old brain, exciting and very much a world I wanted to be a part of. It was packed full of everything I craved—friends, mischief and magic. As an adult, it’s remained   that but with a much more complex understanding of what all those things mean. When we meet Harry he doesn’t have a place. He’s bullied by his cousin, ignored by his aunt and uncle and desperate for someone to see him, to really see him and to listen. When strange letters begin to arrive his world gets turned upside down and finally, after a giant of a man named Hagrid, tells him he's a wizard, his life begins to fall into place. He heads off to Hogwarts and embarks on a journey of not only magical discovery, but a personal one too. There is layer upon layer of heartbreaking discovery for Harry. He learns not only about this new, exciting world but he also learns about himself an...

It's In His Kiss (Bridgerton #7) by Julia Quinn

I have almost reached the end of the Bridgerton series and I’ll admit—I’m a little sad. Book seven was Hyacinth’s book and it was a mixed one for me—parts were brilliant but there seems to be a bit of a running theme with these books--they start slow, then they get good, then around about the middle you’re thinking it’s slow again but it picks up once again at the end. Hyacinth and Gareth were most definitely a good match. They complimented each other really well and their story had a lot of fun and mischief. Perhaps if I hadn't read When He Was Wicked before this and fallen in love with Michael, I'd have thought Gareth St Clair more devilish ... but in comparison, he's not. Or at least, we don't see that side of him. I enjoyed ‘the hunt’ and the moments that created, I loved that Gareth learned the answer to 'the secret' and I’m glad Hyacinth found someone who she could be herself with and who loved her because of it. Again, it was an easy, light-hearted read ...

Fueled (book two) by K. Bromberg

Incredible .  Colton and Rylee’s story continues in book two of the  Driven   Series and it goes from strength to strength. There were so many, so many parts in this story that had me actually growling at my kindle. Colton can truly be the most infuriating male in the book world sometimes. But I get it. And so will you. As is always the case with K.Bromberg , you’ll get a heap load of emotions and sexiness but it’s not all the story is. There is a complicated and deep story woven throughout and it’s beautiful to read. There are some utterly heartbreaking moments that left me breathless and with tears streaming down my face, but there were also many, many moments of absolute belly laughing and that’s truly what I need from a book. Everything . There are few books that make me throw my kindle, only to go right back and pick it up, because I just had to know what was going to happen. And then it did …   I LOVE this series.

When He Was Wicked (Bridgerton #6) by Julia Quinn

This story was so unexpected because I don’t remember seeing hardly any mention of Francesca in the other books. But what a delight it was!  I feel like with the last two books, Quinn was really hitting her stride, really perfecting her craft and for me, it’s paid off. Francesca’s story is one with a lot of emotions which felt really modern which I loved. And of course, there is Michael - where do I start with him? He’s got a charming side but even better than that, (for me anyway) he’s got a devilishly dirty mouth which I simply love. I really enjoyed the beginning, then I struggled in the middle for a while, but from about 60% it got so good and I couldn’t put it down. There’s love, loss, grief, working out how to move on and navigating falling in love with your best friend. This story has themes that pull at your heartstrings and leave you with tears rolling down your cheeks while other moments will leave you laughing and then you’ll be feeling a little … overheated. Aren’t thos...

Driven (book one) by K. Bromberg

You know when you discover something so fantastic you wish you'd known about it your whole life? This is one of those books. I discovered K.Bromberg early into her writing career and haven’t looked back since.   At first when I started reading I thought I knew what kind of book this was going to be. You meet Rylee and you learn pretty quickly she’s a force to be reckoned with. She’s fierce brave and strong and I love that. You get introduced to Colton very early and he appears to be like so many other alpha males in romance books. Oh, how wrong I was. As the story unfolds, you realise that for all his bluster and dirty talk, Colton is a damaged and deeply feeling guy who doesn’t know how to let anyone in. Their chemistry is insane and the push-pull of their relationship will have you longing for more. It’s a deeply emotional story and one that I have read a number of times and fall more in love with each time I read it. It is without a doubt one of the best trilogies out th...

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

I just want to start by saying, this book deserves so many more than 5* in my opinion. It's a truly beautifully tragic love story, one that will stay with me forever. Have you ever had a friend tell you to read a book? You tell them no. That you cannot deal with that kind emotional roller coster? But they keep telling you to read it, insisting that you’ll fall madly in love with the story, with the characters and even though, you’ll feel pain, it will be the most beautiful kind of pain? That the tears that fall will heal you, one by one? I’m the first to admit, I’m an emotional person, therefore I’m an emotional reader. I love nothing more than to find myself fully invested in a story from the first page. I want to feel like I’m living the character’s life, that I can feel their pain and share in their joy. When I’m so invested in a story nothing else matters. For me, it’s a rare thing to find a story that makes real life and everything that goes will it cease to exist, even cease ...

To Sir Philip, With Love (Bridgerton #5) by Julia Quinn

To date, this is my favourite Bridgerton book! I loved the story, I really loved the journey the characters, in particular Philip, go on. I loved how we learn more about him and why he, at first, appears gruff and moody. I thought there was a lot of depth to the characters which I loved and hope this continues as for me, I felt you could see how the writing was improving. I found myself laughing out loud with this one and not being able to read at times from tears - just wonderful. For me, it was the most ‘contemporary’ feeling of all the novels thus far and I enjoyed that immensely. For Quinn, the sex was a little more descriptive and it appears Eloise is the first female lead who doesn’t just lay there and want to be taken slowly - I wholeheartedly approve of this, Eloise! I love the regency setting but some of the themes and story lines haven’t grabbed me as much as this one did which is absolutely fine, as everyone wants something different from the books they read after all. I’m ...

The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy #3) by Deborah Harkness

I’ve been blown away by this entire series. It has kept me completely captivated for the last couple of weeks and I am so sad it’s over. Very few stories have sucked me in like this world has and I have loved every second of it. I didn’t find the writing predictable, I adored all the characters and the depth of detail and I simply adored the complexity of the story. Hooray for a female character that is strong, brave and unafraid to do what she has to but most importantly is unapologetically herself. Bravo for a male character who has flaws, knows what they are and doesn’t pretend otherwise and who walks with his head high into the unknown and makes himself truly vulnerable. Praise has to be given to Harkness for creating a story so rich, detailed and believable that I feel I lived this story with them. All good things must come to an end, which I’ve had to remind myself over and over again as I reached the end of this marvellous series. It was a beautiful ending for most characters ye...
