“She is my salvation, my reason for existence, my queen.”
It starts off exactly where Second Debt left off. We take the journey that Jethro and Nila take trying to piece together what’s left after the ending of Second Debt.
For me, this series goes from strength to strength and this book has so much in it that you don't have a chance to take breath. From the second it starts you’re whisked back and forth between Jethro and Nila’s turmoil and it seems, for a long time, that there isn’t going to be any good coming from it—how could there be?
The Third Debt actually made my stomach turn and I was definitely pushed to the very edge of my comfort and tolerance. But then … Kes happens and suddenly everything slips a little more into place and you find yourself not only cheering for Jethro and Nila, but you’re cheering for Kes too. Because he deserves happiness just like they do.
Reading their growth, seeing them become stronger, better people has been an absolute pleasure. Jethro and Nila (... and Kes if I'm honest) have stolen my heart and taken over my mind and I don’t regret a single thing.
•Needless to say, if you’re unsure if dark is for you, then please do your research and read the trigger warnings for this book.

Jethro is doing his best to numb everything. He’s past feeling, past caring and past trying to save Nila. He’s done. Thinking he finally has an answer to being able to live life in ‘peace’, he takes it and he holds on to it with everything he has. Meanwhile Nila is trying to fight for him, for everything they shared at the end of Second Debt. For her, nothing has changed. Even when she’s faced with what Jethro is becoming, she fights for him.

But, as with all Pepper’s stories, the road to happiness is never, ever easy and this road has barely begun. The unique talent that Pepper has is to be able to create a story that pulls your emotions in every direction, that challenges your tolerance of evil and wraps you so tightly you can’t escape and by the end of it, you want to shout about just how much you loved it, is one I have very rarely found.
I’m going to end this here and go and start the next book because I absolutely cannot stand not knowing what’s going to happen (even if I have read it before, it doesn’t feel like it at this point)
