It’s universally known that the more forbidden something is, the more desirable it becomes.
This is my first—but certainly not my last—Pam Godwin book. And once again, I have my best friend to thank for getting me to finally read this story. It’s been on my TBR list for a long time, and for me, those books always seem to be the ones I end up loving the most. It’s almost like, my heart knows they’re THAT good and saves them for when I really need them.
Anyway, THIS BOOK.
It goes without saying that the sexual tension was off the charts from the second they met and it didn’t let up. Their connection was intense and wild and at no point did I feel that it wasn’t right.
Ivory is an incredibly strong female lead—which I adored. Her fierceness was fantastic to read and her strength to keep going no matter how difficult it got made me want to yell in joy. I felt her turmoil and struggles so clearly and I felt like I understood them a little too.
Emeric … wow. That man is a furnace. From the very first meeting I knew he was something special. He dominates as easily as he breathes and he plays piano in the same way. He's deep and has wisdom and protects with a ferocity that calls to something deep inside of you. He's absolutely delightful and I've fallen hard for this man.
My biggest and most favourite thing about this story is that Emeric doesn’t Dominate because he’s damaged or has an awful past—he does it because it’s who he is. He just needs it. I’m getting a little bored of Dominant men who have crippling backstories if I’m completely honest so this was so refreshing.
Is this story a little taboo? Kind of. Does it distract from the incredible writing? No. I’ll be honest and say the age gap was the least important part for me. The story is just two people who find each other and in that person find everything they need. Perfection.
Pam’s writing was exceptional and I cannot wait to read more of her words and lose myself in her stories, because this most definitely will not be my only Pam Godwin book.
Five massive stars for Dark Notes.
