“Do your worst, Jethro Hawk. I’m ready to pay your First Debt.”
This book goes deeper into the absolute craziness of the Hawk/Weaver world. We learn a little more about what is expected of Nila when it comes to the Debts and Pepper drip feeds us hints about Jethro—about his ‘condition’ and about his twisted and volatile relationship with his family. During the course of the book, Nila works out how to change her destiny … or at least she thinks she does.
It’s brutal at times and yet there’s so much confusing sexual tension you’re left wondering why on earth you’re enjoying the whole build up to what seems like the inevitable and yet … you keep on reading because Pepper has a firm hold on you now and you just have to know what happens, where these characters go and the most important question of all … will there be a Final Debt?
I completely forgot how abruptly the second book in this series ended—thankfully I can dive straight in to Second Debt.
First Debt gets 4 stars from me.
I wasn't sure about this series to begin with. While reading Debt Inheritance I didn't love Jethro, Nila mostly infuriated me and I found the whole idea of the story hard to believe—and yes, I’m fully aware it’s fiction, but even with fiction everyone has limits, don't they?
However ...
As I read First Debt, I couldn't help but get sucked further into the Indebted world and as the story unfolded I found myself falling for Jethro and cheering for Nila—proof to me that Pepper Winters has an exceptional talent to turn the readers feelings around and drag you into the world she’s created.
